Amerge Updates: Our First Streaming Payment
We’re excited to announce that Amerge just received our first streaming royalty payment. We sent that money directly to the token split, no intermediaries, and 100% transparency!
Exciting Milestone: Streaming Royalties Sent to Token Split for the First Time!
Hey everyone! Levi Downey here, co-founder of Amerge, the world’s first on-chain music licensing cooperative. Today, I’m thrilled to share an exciting update. What we thought would take a couple of years has already become a reality—our first streaming royalty payment has been sent to a token split, marking a significant moment for our community!
A Surprising Achievement: Streaming Royalties Arrive Early
To give you some context, one of our friends, Corey Bricker, hired us to create a theme song for his TikTok account, and the song started gaining traction. He licensed the custom song “Sometimes” and started using it in a lot of his content. Out of nowhere, streams from TikTok and other platforms began to add up, leading to a $5 royalty payment.
Now, while $5 might not sound like much, it’s significant for us at this stage, especially with just a handful of songs in our catalog and only two of them released commercially. This early success underscores the potential of what Amerge is building—a future where artists and collaborators can efficiently earn revenue and share ownership transparently.
The Power of Token Splits: How It Works
So, how does this connect to our mission? Amerge owns the intellectual property (IP) of the songs we create. Any money that comes in, including streaming royalties like the one we received, goes directly to the co-op. From there, we send the payment to our Token Split contract.
For this project, our friend Corey shares a portion of the song’s ownership, along with myself, our co-founder Dennis, and other contributors. Each song in our catalog has 100 tokens representing the revenue share. For this particular song, we received $4.83 from DSPs (Digital Streaming Platforms), and we’ve sent that amount directly to the token split.
The best part? The process is seamless. The contract automatically splits the payment based on the ownership percentages—no need to manually calculate or involve lawyers. In this case, I personally have 27% ownership of the song, which translates to $1.30. And just like that, I can claim my share of the earnings, as can everyone else involved in the project.
What This Means for the Future of Music Ownership
This moment illustrates the true power of decentralization. The tokens representing each person's share are liquid assets—they can be bought, sold, or traded without legal complexities. This is a game-changer compared to traditional music licensing and publishing, where transferring ownership often involves lawyers and contracts. With Amerge, your tokenized ownership can move freely, creating new opportunities for music makers, artists, music placers and music operators.
And this is only the beginning. We didn’t expect to see streaming royalties coming in this early, but here we are! This milestone shows how Amerge’s cooperative model is on to something special. The future of music ownership is more accessible, transparent, and empowering for everyone involved.
